Description
Village Sign - Foxton - Richard Reeve
Foxton is a small village in Cambridgeshire that has been occupied for at least two millennia. In the Domesday book the village was called Foxetune, meaning a farmstead where foxes are seen. This is clearly depicted on the carved wooden village sign, along with St Laurence Church, the restored old Dovecote, malt house and Barrington Press. The water pump represents the fresh water supplying the village that was the inspiration for The Common Stream, by Rowland Parker. This book is one of the most definitive works on the history and development of the English Village
