Artist's Description
Tree Snail drinking from False Bird of Paradise Plant - Richard Reeve
This large spiral guy (or gal, as these snails are hermaphrodite) is having a quick drink form the beautiful false-bird-of-paradise plant in the rain forest in Puerto Rico. These mollusks are quite large (3-4 inches in diameter) and reach maturity at between 3-6 years old. The plants in Puerto Rico have many of these tree snails climbing on them so it does not appear that are heavily predated.
