Being a pachyderm used to be fun. As one of the few megaherbivores running around the place in a herd you really were, to a large extent, in charge (excuse the pun). Nowadays it's not so easy. For some reason people thought that their tusks made nice white piano keys and jewelry and their feet made interesting umbrella stands. Such odd behavior. Now the are fewer elephants worldwide than before and some kept in smaller enclosures all over the world in places they would never naturally be found. I wonder what this stately pachyderm is thinking when looking out at the spectators...
