Description
Starling - Richard Reeve
The common starling (Sturnus vulgaris) is a widely distributed bird that likes to form large flocks (or murmurations) that rapidly fly as a so-ordinated body, especially at dusk. Sometimes these flocks can be made of thousands of individual birds that create complex shapes in the sky known as a black sun.
Most people regards them as fairly nondescript birds, but they do, in fact have a very beautiful iridescent plumage. They are fairly smart and often can be seen in areas of human habitation picking up scraps, as in this case in Madison Square Park, Manhattan.
