Description
The beautiful, iconic granite sculpture of the Temple mascot, a red owl, by Beniamino Bufano stood in the Alumni Circle, at Temple University, Philadelphia at the southeast corner of Berks Mall and Liacouras Walk for just under 30 years.
This 3,000 lb flecked Italian red-marble statue suddenly and quietly disappeared in 2017 at the time the new library was being constructed and has been replaced by a hideously violent looking owl instead. What has become of Bufano's icon? I simply do not know - it would be nice to see it somewhere else on campus, but the administration is keeping characteristically tight lipped about it...
... update Sep 2019 - this wonderful owl is back again in the Alumni Circle, fairly close to its original positioning.

Beautiful shot! I love the light and reflections! L/F!

Thank you Meg, I thought this was beautiful and to find another sculpture from Benny Bufano, who had his works in the Hillsdale Shopping center, San Mateo where we used to regularly shop, is a truly weird link...
