Eugenio María de Hostos - Richard Reeve
Eugenio María de Hostos y Bonilla, commonly known as Eugenio María de Hostos, was a prominent Puerto Rican educator, writer, and advocate for social justice in the 19th century. Born on January 11, 1839, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Hostos dedicated his life to the pursuit of education and the betterment of society.
Hostos' achievements encompassed a wide range of fields, making significant contributions throughout his career. In the realm of education, he played a crucial role in the development of modern education systems in several Latin American countries. He emphasized the importance of free and secular education accessible to all, advocating for equal opportunities for both men and women. Hostos believed education to be the key to social progress and actively promoted educational reforms.
