Description
President Wanted (after Zoe Leonard)
In late 2016 a huge (20 foot by 30 foot) reproduction of Zoe Leonard's 1992 poem was pasted on one of the walls alongside New York's Highline, on Manhattan. Originally it was to be displayed from October 11th through November 17th 2016, but it was still there when I visited in the failing light of the evening of February 1st, 2017. Slightly tattered, possibly by the weather, potentially by vandals, I don't know. In some ways this adds to the poignancy of the text.
We all want a President who is more in tune with the ordinary people, someone who has lived a normal life and suffered some of the normal trials and tribulations associated with normal living and who can understand and empathize with people.
Will we ever get one?

Meg Shearer
I think I like this even more, tattered and worn. It adds a layer of hopelessness that makes it even more powerful. l/f!
Richard Reeve replied:
I agree totally, Meg. I wonder how long they will leave it up there and just how battered it will become...
