Description
Mylapore Peacock - Richard Reeve
From the Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Shakti was the wife to Shiva, the god of destruction. In a fit of temper, which he later regretted, Shiva transformed her to a peacock, or mayil in Tamil. The city of Mylapore, which is now a part of Chennai (Madras) is named after this goddess, who is worshiped as the creator of change.
